2026 Season Preview with Formby CC Mens Third XI Captain Andy McMorran

Formby Cricket Club’s 3rd XI is preparing for what promises to be another important year in the club’s development pathway as we approach the start of the 2026 season. With an important emphasis on integrating junior talent into senior cricket, new captain Andy McMorran is focused on creating a positive, competitive environment where all players can thrive!

In this Q&A, Andy reflects on the progress of the club’s younger players, outlines key lessons for the season ahead, and shares his hopes for a balanced and successful campaign built on teamwork and enjoyment.

1. Looking back at last season, what were you most pleased with?
Although I wasn’t team captain last season, I most enjoyed seeing the U13s and U15s develop and enjoy their cricket against some tough opposition.

2. Is there anything the side learned from last year that you’re hoping will help the team improve this season?
Value your wicket, support your teammates and enjoy your cricket! If they didn’t learn this last year, they hopefully will this year.

3. How is the squad shaping up ahead of the new campaign?
We should have a very strong squad! I expect, and am hoping, we will have a mixture of experienced adult players and some of the stronger U13s and U15s, who we may need to rotate from time to time. We will also be welcoming Fergus McIntosh, who I am sure will be a great asset to the team.

4. Are there any players in particular who supporters should keep an eye on this year?
All of them! We will no doubt have some stars emerging during the season, but as a captain I am looking to get the best I can from all of our players!

5. What are you personally most looking forward to about the season ahead?
Winning games of cricket! And seeing any younger players kick on and push for places in the 2s, if not for this season then next.

6. Finally, what message would you like to share with the members and supporters of the club ahead of the 2026 season?
Play as a team, respect your opposition, be the best you can be—and above all, enjoy!

There’s a clear focus on development, teamwork and enjoyment for the 3rd XI heading into 2026. With a healthy blend of youth and experience, and an emphasis on giving opportunities to emerging players, Andy McMorran’s side will be aiming to compete strongly while continuing to nurture the next generation. Supporters can look forward to a season built on effort, progression and a genuine love of the game.
