From impressive individual performances and the continued development of the club's young talent to the ambitions for the remainder of the season, Andy shares his thoughts on where the club stands and what lies ahead.

We're over halfway through the season now. How would you assess how things have gone across Formby CC so far?

We as a club have been fairly inconsistent this year so far.
The 1st team have been good at times in the league with some good wins but I don't think it's an understatement to say we are frustrated by our cup performances after some great wins last season.
2nds have a few weeks to get some vital wins after another frustrating season in the league but go into the T20 Finals Day with confidence.
The 3s have been wonderful all year with a very young group and have reached T20 Finals Day this Sunday.
The 4s have had a year of massive unavailability due mostly to our young lads playing so much midweek, school and Saturday cricket but have won the past 2 games and hopefully can get on a good run.

What have you been most pleased with from the players, both in terms of performances and the way they've approached the season?

From the 1st team perspective, looking at how young the team is, it's mostly an Under-25 side full of good players who are developing their own games and learning to take responsibility.
Elsewhere we have to acknowledge the wonderful work being done to bring through young players into the senior teams and show that Formby CC still has a strong pathway to the first team for young cricketers.

There have been some strong individual and team performances this year. Are there any moments or achievements that stand out to you?

Standouts for me were Dylan Walker's 8-11 at Bootle and Archie Davies' 5-7 at Ormskirk. Our spinners have been outstanding this year in the 1st XI and have taken a combined 109 wickets so far this season.
As I write this, we also have three batsmen in the top six Premier League run scorers, with Ian Cockbain leading the way. Jack Carney has shown increasing levels of responsibility and has played outstandingly at times, while Lucas Kennedy continues to show what a fine prospect he is. It could well have been four had Nick Ritchie not been sidelined through injury for six games.
We also have to acknowledge the efforts of Michael Booth in the 2nd XI, who has turned up week in, week out with the bat and scored some impressive centuries.

One of the club's strengths is the pathway from junior to senior cricket. How pleasing has it been to see younger players stepping up and making an impact?

Very pleasing. I think the club developing two county-contracted cricketers in recent years, with opportunities for more to follow, is fantastic.
We are never shy to give opportunities in the adult teams, and the pathway is there for young cricketers who show promise and are prepared to work hard at their game with our coaches. We will always have an open pathway, and it's a clear goal of the first-team captain to help players progress towards county cricket opportunities.

As Head Coach, what areas are you looking for the teams to improve on during the second half of the season?

Consistency is the key. We have to bowl in the right areas, taking more responsibility for our own parts of the game.
From a batting perspective, the batters again need to take responsibility to finish games and not leave that to others.

Looking ahead, what would you like to achieve over the final few weeks of the campaign, both in terms of results and the wider development of the club?

I would love us to win the Premier League. We are third and someone has to win it. As one of our players put it this week: "Why not us?"
Elsewhere, we'd like to see the 2nds climb into mid-table and maybe win a cup, while the 3rds would love to win a trophy and finish in the top six of the league.

Looking ahead to the winter, we expect to run a Winter Academy with Mark O'Connor and myself leading it alongside other coaches. Within the Academy, a lot of time will be spent on the technical aspects of the game and preparing players for the next stages of their development.

All in all, there's a lot to look forward to at Formby CC.
