Formby Cricket Club is thrilled to announce a significant addition to the 1st XI squad for the upcoming season with the signing of highly-rated left-arm seam bowler Josh Thompson.
Josh makes the move to Cricket Path from local rivals Northern CC, bringing with him a reputation as one of the most clinical limited overs bowlers in the Liverpool Competition. His arrival marks a clear statement of intent for Formby as the club looks to build on recent successes and challenge for silverware in the 2026 campaign.
While his ability to take early wickets with the new ball is well-documented, it is his composure at the end of an innings that has earned him plaudits across the league. His variations, slower balls, and ability to hit the Yorker length consistently make him a challenge for middle-order batters looking to accelerate.

The race for Josh’s signature was competitive, with several top-flight clubs vying for his services. However, the project at Formby and the opportunity to lead the attack at one of the region's premier grounds proved to be the deciding factor.
Formby CC Captain Ian Cockbain expressed his excitement regarding the new arrival:

He gives us a different option on a Saturday and his limited overs skills are some of the best in the league.
