Cricket Path Chat Episode 2- New Era for the Junior Section: A Conversation with Ben Chapman

Cricket Club Admin26 Feb - 13:23

We sat down with our new Junior Chairman, Ben Chapman, to discuss his vision for the future of Formby CC’s youngest stars.

Ben is a familiar face around the club, known for his commitment on the field and his passion for the game’s grassroots. Here is what he had to say about his new role:

Ben isn’t new to the FCC family. Entering his sixth season at the club, he’s spent over half a decade embedding himself in the Formby community.

“I’ve met some cracking people and hopefully impacted a game or two along the way,"

That experience in the thick of the action has given him a front-row seat to what makes this club special—the people.

Having spent the majority of his playing days in 2nd and 3rd XI cricket, Ben has always found himself in a natural position to mentor emerging talent. For him, the role of Junior Chair is about much more than just organizing fixtures; it’s about character building.

"Cricket teaches people about teamwork, skills, leadership, and taking responsibility," Ben explains. "Above all, it’s fun. I think I can help the club, the parents, and the juniors in enjoying this wonderful sport."

Ben isn't wasting any time setting ambitious goals for the upcoming year. The club has identified two major pillars for growth in 2026:
* Growth: The exciting creation of a dedicated Girls Team.
* Development: Enhanced coaching opportunities designed to help juniors sharpen their technical skills.

Ben advises members to "watch this space," as more detailed communications regarding these changes will be shared shortly.

When asked which players we should be keeping an eye on this season, Ben was diplomatically (and rightly) hesitant to pick favorites. To him, success isn't just measured by the scoreboard.
"There is as much joy and pride from a six-year-old picking up a bat as there is when Lucas is scoring runs for Lancs 2s," Ben says. "All of the juniors make us proud when they represent the club at any level, especially when they start to feel comfortable enough to really express their skills."

With Ben at the helm, the future of the Junior section looks bright, inclusive, and—most importantly—fun.

Please join us in welcoming Ben to his new role!
